§ According to the University of Missouri, during the first six months of 2007, beef demand rose 0.6% and pork demand rose 0.3%.  Professor Glen Grimes told Meatingplace.com that beef demand has increased because of exports and higher domestic demand while pork has been driven solely by domestic demand; pork exports are lower than last year.

§  According to Cattle Buyers Weekly, in 2008 there will be at least four new beef value cuts released; a grilling steak, an affordable roast for dry roasting, boneless country-style ribs and a fully cooked roast.  Beef Innovations Group, funded by the beef checkoff, created these cuts.  This is the same group that created the flatiron steak, a cut steadily gaining popularity.

§ What direction are feeder cattle headed?  Prices are expected to trend lower through the fall but become more stable late in 2007.  Cattle-Fax reports that a 2-3% decline in prices from today is typically seen into the fall, according to twenty-year data.

§ July 31st was another day for the record books; at least for the Oct, Dec, Feb and Apr live cattle futures.  Those months all posted new lifetime highs that day.

§ 883 loads of beef were exported during the week ending July 20th.  This is the largest shipment since 2003.
