·  August 1 Cattle on Feed: On Feed 5.2%, Placements 82.8%, Marketings 102.5%

·  Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota combined had 25,000 more cattle on feed August 1, 2007 versus August 1, 2006.

·  Foot and mouth disease seems to be under control once again in Britain.  The disease was confirmed at two farms near a laboratory research facility but two other farms which were tested were negative for the disease.

·  Beef exports were 17% higher during the first five months of 2007 than in 2006.

·  On Monday, the Agriculture Ministry said that South Korea is expected to decide whether to resume U.S. beef imports by the end of this week.

·  The Japanese export market is valued at over $2 billion.  In order to help U.S. producers raise beef that is consistent with what Asian consumers are demanding, Texas A&M University is hosting a symposium in October which will focus on producing beef with high levels of oleic acid and other heart healthy attributes, high marbling and softer, more unsaturated fat.  There will also be research presented on specific breeds of cattle; Japanese Wagyu and Korean Hanwoo.

·  U.S. pork exports are 5.5% lower year-to-date on a product weight basis; shipments have been below 2006 for the fifth consecutive month.  The biggest impact has been from the market to Mexico.  Year to date total value of shipments to Mexico are 26% lower than last year.  Analysts say the Mexican trade could resume to more normal levels if corn prices stabilize and they slow their hog herd liquidation.  Russian and Taiwanese exports are also down.  Shipments to South Korea are better than a year ago but analysts are concerned about the future of pork exports as beef exports continue to increase.
