v     U.S. Cattle on Feed report, released August 22, 2008 indicates feedlot inventories to be 4% below 2007 and 9% below 2006.

 

v     USDA estimates consumer food prices to rise by 5% - 6% in 2008. Beef prices are expected to increase only 3% compared to a 14% increase for eggs.

 

v     Are your cattle facing North? German researchers, using satellite imagery, have discovered that when the weather is optimal cattle line up with the earths magnetic fields. Scientists used Google Earth software to observe the alignment of cattle in 308 pastures around the world.(AFP)

 

v     Americans spend over $1 trillion a year on food. The producer receives $.20 of each dollar. (NFU)

 

v     U.S. purchases $154 billion of Chinese imports, while China purchases only $37 billion of U.S. exports. (Department of Commerce)

 

v     2008 Net Farm Income forecast to be $92.3 billion up $3.6 billion from 2007, and more than $30 billion above its 10 year average. (USDA)

 

v     In 1967 the average farm was 369 acres, in 2007 the average farm was 449 acres.(USDA)

 

v     Americans are seeing the doctor less often in response to a slowing economy. 22% of Americans say they have reduced their number of doctor visits in order to save money. (Investment News)
