·   Thus far in 2007 there have been 5 percent fewer (330,000 head) Select grade fed cattle versus 2006 and 2 percent more (190,000 head) Choice grade fed cattle.

·   Argentine beef is loosing quality because the pastureland those cattle have grazed on is quickly being turned over to cropland.  This cropland now accommodates corn and soybean crops, which are more profitable.   In the past 15 years 24.7 million acres have been turned over to cropland and in the past four years alone, the grain and oilseed industry in Argentina has grown 50%.

·   Last week was a great week for product value; Choice boxed beef cut-out value was moved $3.69 higher, Selects gained $3.62.

·   In September – November, Cattle-Fax is projecting live cattle prices to average in the mid-$90’s with highs in the upper $90’s.  They’re projecting cattle prices from December to February to trend lower compared to the September – November period due to seasonally larger supplies and heavier carcass weights.

·   2007 will mark the smallest alfalfa production year since 1961 and spring stock levels of all-dry hay is at the lowest level since 1951.

·   Bejing is hosting the 2008 Olympics and they’re raising special vegetables and special pigs for the occasion!  The pigs will be raised in a secret shelter, fed organic grain that doesn’t contain preservatives.  The pigs will be immunized with Chinese herbs and exercised for two hours each day.
